Targeted GOTV (Get Out The Vote)

Are you a Committee Person, Ward Leader, or involved with a political organization in which GOTV is your crown jewel? Like candidates for office, you need to solve the problem of who to canvass and mail. While some of your members have the time and energy to reach out to every single constituent assigned to them, most need their lists targeted to likely voters. And mailing can get expensive quickly.

VoterProb® helps you put a fine point on building these lists. For instance, you can target different groups of voters based on their probability of voting:

  • Super voters (90+% chance of voting):  These folks need a light touch. Help them with endorsements (when it matters) and a friendly visit.
  • Leaning likely (70% – 89%):  This population needs a little bit more encouragement to cast their vote. Additional mailings and a text reminder on EDay may do the trick.
  • Lackadaisical (50% – 69%):  When you’ve exhausted your Likely and Super voters, then spend any remaining time and money here. This group takes a lot more effort to show up and cast a vote.

Define your GOTV program

VoterProb® helps you figure out which voters you need to target in order to get the GOTV effect you’re looking for. Take a look at the probability bands below for an example Ward:

For each of these Divisions, you can see how far down in the probabilities you need to go to get the GOTV result you want. Some of your canvassers will want to hit all of their voters. Others, not so much. Make the best use of the energy in your organization by creating turfs that are doable – and impactful.

VoterProb® is also perfect for building mailing lists. Talk to your print shop for the per item mailing cost, and confidently mail to those who fit your budget. Make your mailing spend count by not wasting resources on dedicated non-voters.

Have extra time and resources? Confidently go after non voters, knowing you’ve got a lot of work to do.

Practice “banding”

Want to be extra sophisticated? Use the VoterProb® probability bands:

  • Start at the top and cut turfs, working your way down.
  • Keep track of who was personally reached, and reschedule those who were not at home.
  • As you complete each probability band (or group of bands), you now have a game plan for who to reach next.
  • You can also cluster canvassing to include super voters and any lesser voters who may live next door (or nearby). Maximize your canvassing outreach when knocking on doors.
